Virgin London Marathon runners 2010

From more than 850 centres in communities across the UK and Republic of Ireland, The Salvation Army brings its caring mission to those who are in the greatest need and without the means to help themselves.

Our residential centres offer professional care for thousands of people, including resettling homeless people, running detox programmes for people with addictions, and supporting older people and families.

Our local centres serve their community in ways that are most needed. Crèches, nurseries, parent & toddler groups, practical parenting classes, youth programmes, breakfast and after school clubs, lunch clubs, home visits, and Over 60’s clubs all make a real, practical difference to people in need, at risk, or just looking for friendship who would otherwise feel excluded or isolated.

We support armed forces personnel and their families in bases across the UK and beyond, and help the emergency services by providing refreshments, shelter and befriending at major incidents.

With this amazing diversity, it’s easy to see why The Salvation Army is one of the largest, most diverse providers of social services.

Your support can really help us to make a different across the UK and Ireland to people who need it, for example;

  • £28 will pay for five lonely older people to enjoy a hot meal at a Salvation Army community centre.
  • £41 pays for a Salvation Army officer to run an older person's drop-in centre for one day.
  • £63 pays for a week's accommodation in a Salvation Army resettlement centre for a homeless young person.
  • £84 helps keep one of our day care centres open for one week.
  • £250 helps keep a Salvation Army drop-in centre open during a longer spell of bad weather.

The Salvation Army has places in the Virgin London Marathon and the BUPA 10,000 and we would love for you to join our team and support our work. To find out more information please visit www.salvationarmy.org.uk or email challenge@salvationarmy.org.uk
