About Us
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is the leading UK charity focusing on muscle disease.
Finding the causes of and cures for muscular dystrophy, and related muscle disease, had always been at the forefront of what we do. To date we have invested over £100 million in pioneering research and the provision of care and support.
Muscle disease affects anyone of any age and any race. It affects the muscles in the arms and legs as well as the heart and respiratory muscles. More than 70,000 babies, children and adults in the UK are affected. They are currently no cures and many affected children don’t live to reach adulthood.
Since the charity was set up in 1959 the diagnoses of different forms of muscular dystrophy and related muscle diseases has improved greatly and we now provide support for over 60 different muscle-wasting conditions, which include
- care and support to families
- campaigning for better services
- research into cures and treatments
We rely almost entirely on donations to finance the work we do and regard our fundraisers as important as any donors, so we make it our job to give you the best and most memorable experience we can.
