About Kids Company
Kids Company was established by Camila Batmanghelidjh in 1996 in order to provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people. Many of the 14,000 children we support have experienced severe and multiple trauma.
Often these are ‘lone children’ living in chronic deprivation, with little or no support from the adults in their family; some are young carers struggling to look after younger siblings or parents who are unable to care for them, and many have been forced into drug running, gangs, or prostitution as the only means of survival in their depleted communities.
At Kids Company, we offer a safe, caring, family environment in which children’s behaviour is understood in the context of their emotional pain and life experiences. No matter how disturbed a child is, they will never be turned away. Kids Company deliver services in 38 inner-city schools, two street-level centres, an early intervention therapy house and an over 16s educational academy. In 2007 Kids Company was awarded the Liberty and Justice Human Rights Award.
Our aim is to promote and support emotional well-being, and in everything that we do the child is put first. Every pound you raise goes to help us make a lasting different in these children and young people’s lives.
