'Cardiomyopathy' is a medical term meaning 'disease of the heart muscle'. Some forms of cardiomyopathy affect 1 in 500 of the population. The condition can cause variable symptoms, including heart failure, palpitations and syncope. In some tragic cases the first symptom may be sudden death.

People affected by cardiomyopathy face a bewildering situation as they come to terms with their situation. The Cardiomyopathy Association is there to help them. We respond to the feelings of anxiety and isolation and which people commonly feel when affected by cardiomyopathy. We work to empower people by helping them to understand cardiomyopathy, allaying their fears and promoting independence.

We provide information booklets, a help line, a website and regional information meetings. We have supported clinical care by funding specialist nurses and provide free educational opportunities doctors at our academic conferences.

We understand and we sympathise but mostly we take action to help.
