Over 300,000 people in the UK are affected by a form cardiomyopathy. Despite these numbers cardiomyopathy remains one of the less recognised forms of heart disease. Cardiomyopathy is an often hereditary heart muscle disease. It is the most common cause of sudden death in people under the age of 35. In others it can cause debilitating symptoms that can have a major impact on their lives.
The fantastic people who take part in running and challenge events help us to help people living with the effects of cardiomyopathy. If treated correctly, people diagnosed with cardiomyopathy can often resume normal lives. The CMA is there to help them to understand cardiomyopathy and answer their many questions.
We are overwhelmed by the effort and commitment people show, which allows us to provide information and support to families, to educate doctors and nurse and to provide funding to improve clinic services for patients.
In supporting the CMA, either by taking part in one of our many running events or other fundraising activities, you can be sure you will be making a real difference by helping us to fight cardiomyopathy.

When my 18 year-old son died suddenly at football practice, I needed to talk to someone and find out why. We couldn’t even pronounce the name of his condition. We were confused, upset and angry. Why him? Why us? The CMA answered our questions and supported us in our grief. I do not know what we would have done without their help. They still support us and now my younger son has been diagnosed, we know what we can do to help him
