Bowel & Cancer Research is a unique charity. As well as conducting medical research into bowel cancer and other bowel diseases, we also invest in developing new techniques which mean that increasing numbers of people will avoid a permanent stoma following bowel surgery.

Are Bowels an Issue?
We think so...
Around 38,000 people each year are told that they have bowel cancer
There are around 60,000 hospital procedures carried out each year which result in a stoma
Around 150,000 people deal daily with chronic conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Up to 2 in 10 new mums suffer birthing injuries that leave them faecally incontinent

But people tend to “suffer in silence” which has contributed to poor investment in bowel research, and tragically needless deaths from bowel cancer, which remains the UK’s 2nd biggest cancer killer, despite being the most curable.
