The RNLI is a registered charity that saves lives at sea. Last year our lifeboat crews rescued over 8,000 people – that’s an average of 21 people every day.

We provide an on call 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service up to 100 miles out to sea from over 230 lifeboat stations around the coasts of the UK and Republic of Ireland. Our lifeguards provide a seasonal service on over 80 beaches in the south, south west and east of England and in 2006 they assisted nearly 10,000 people.

The RNLI is totally independent from Government and continues to rely on voluntary contributions and legacies for its income
