The International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research Charity - INCTR Challenge Fund (1079181)

The INCTR Challenge Fund supports projects coordinated by the International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR) that improves the cancer treatment delivered to cancer patients in low- and middle-income countries, and helps reduce their suffering by:

  • Providing chemotherapy drugs and anti-bacteria drugs
  • Training local nurses and doctors in early cancer diagnosis, cancer treatment and clinical research
  • Raising the local awareness about cancer in order to encourage prevention and early diagnosis
  • Providing palliative care services for terminally ill cancer patients

So far, the INCTR Burkitt Lymphoma Programme has treated over four hundred children resulting in an average 60% survival rate at 12 months. 70% survival rate is possible if we can continue to develop the programme.

Endemic Burkitt Lymphoma is the most common childhood cancer in Equatorial Africa. (first described by British surgeon Dennis Burkitt in 1956)

'In short, if not treated, a child will most certainly die of this disease. It is one of the few cancers that can be cured with chemotherapy alone ... bear in mind that you can be fairly certain of the result at one year as relapse after one year from the start of treatment is rare… We are working very hard to save more lives and to improve the quality of lives for them. So much has been accomplished by introducing a "standard" of care. We can do better, with your help.'
